2005/2006:

International consultation carried out for ‘Palliative Care Education in other continents’ (Newell-Jones 2007) In Wee and Hughes (eds) Education in Palliative Care: Building a Culture of Learning.

2006:

  • PLATO collaborative partnerships established
  • Consultation undertaken by project director


Key themes identified:

  1. Enhancing skills of experienced trainers and educators in palliative care (more information)
  2. Development of mentorship and supervisory models with particular reference to working with less formally trained palliative care personnel (e.g. domiciliary care givers, volunteer bereavement counsellors) (more information)

2007: March/April: PLATO Bursaries 2007.

Three bursaries, funded by Sobell House Charity, have been awarded to explore

  • the challanges of supporting less formally trained community-based palliative care givers
  • the role of disability and rehabilitation in palliaitve care education.

2007: April: Project Director visit to Argentina

  • to support bursary project on rehabilitation and disability
  • to support the development of Training of Trainers programme led by Argentina (on-going)
  • to explore criteria for evaluation of existing interprofessional courses (on-going)
