PLATO: a global project to share teaching and learning in palliative care. Contact address: Academic Study Centre

Project partners:
The PLATO organisations in Argentina and South Africa are longstanding partners of Sir Michael Sobell House who have developed considerable expertise in palliative care, but continue to face considerable challenges in the development and delivery of an effective palliative care provision, especially for poor people. Pallium Latinoamerica and Hospice Palliative Care Association for South Africa (HPCA) are both non-governmental organisations committed to palliative care as a means of improving the quality of life in the poorest communities. Both play influential roles in their respective countries for driving forward palliative care and are also acutely aware of the limitations of the service offered. Both see the quality of education in palliative care as a key factor in improving patient care, yet also have challenges in terms of developing and resourcing trainer/educators programmes. PLATO focuses on how partners can learn from each other - and where joint research would be mutually beneficial. |
